oops I was wrong

Well with all that is going on and Labor Day I said gas prices were going up this week. Now I have to admit that I was wrong and gas prices crept down this week. Nice break for a change.

Next up, what is the opposite of an Epiphany.

a few " you got to be kidding me"

1) Last week Tom Brady had some minor knee injury at practice and supposedly some of the Las Vegas Odds makers shut down the odds on the AFC title, Super Bowl etc. Could not believe it when I heard it. Does this say something about Tom Brady as a quarterback or our society and gambling? Nowadays would Vegas shut down the odds if Terry Bradshaw got hurt, Roger Staubach, Joe Montana, or Troy Aikman. All four are multiple Super Bowl winning quarterbacks. What about Bret Favre? John Elway? Again is it Brady or is it us? You just got to be kidding me.

2) Last week the Republican National Committee voted to exclude CNN and NBC from their 2016 Presidential primary debates. And this is because both these stations are thinking or preparing to run specials/programs on Hillary Clinton. And way too many people think this is a good idea. Seriously? Their image is pretty battered outside the party right now. If they truly want to win the Presidency they need to get voters outside the party to vote for them, not alienate more people. I think they may run into a freedom of the press issue anyway, but who knows CNN and NBC may decide to go along with it. They are the "liberal" news outlets. That would be just about as stupid. This is for the Presidency folks, an educated electorate is what we need. The RNC gets support from the NRA so maybe the RNC can borrow guns to actually shot themselves in the foot. Another: you got to be kidding me.

3) And also last week I was going to bet the better half when gas prices would start to go up before labor day, basically make a two person pool on what day prices will shift upwards, and my wife says, " they will stay down because I heard on the news that there is plenty of gasoline." Next day gas goes up 14 cents and more at the pump. And I still haven't heard as to why. Egypt? That was the reason they went up a few weeks ago. And the price jump was pretty comparable, then it took I don't know how many weeks to start to come back to where it was previously. Boom! one day and 14 or more cents up. No rational for all this. Anyway it came down a penny yesterday here at many stations, not the majority though. So lets play the game when do they come back up for the labor day weekend. Take a guess folks, but overall this is just another: you got to be kidding me.

And for the sports fans, not a good weekend for the Rangers or the Cowboys. At least for the Cowboys it was preseason, but 6 turnovers. Seriously Coach, wrong side of the ball getting higher turnover numbers. oops.

Have a great evening

what does sensationalism in the news do for you

I am curious as to how the rest of the world views the news. It is a well known fact that news in the United States is dominated by sensationalism. And I am at the point where this has become boring. I use to love to read a newspaper or watch the news. Outside of a very few news shows it is hard to watch most news shows and channels. Am I an anomaly or do people turn off the news more than they turn it on.

And I wonder how others around the world perceive news from their countries. I have seen some news shows from Mexico, but that also contains much sensationalism and drama. It is different from U S news so can be a bit refreshing at times.

So what gives? Is Europe different? Asia? And how does the Middle East perceive news? Right now most of the major headlines here are coming out of Egypt. Is there actual in depth coverage in other parts of the world. News corporations tout in depth coverage here, but it gets old and extremely similar quickly.

For myself it is scary to use to be a news junkie to having to make effort to want to read and view news. I have come to the point where National Public TV's news and the Daly show are about the only shows I get excited about watching. And being conservative in my political thinking I find myself having to swallow their editorial perspective just to feel I am watching quality programming.

I hope there is something better out there that many people are watching so hopefully people get information that is useful to them. The crap I get stuck watching just doesn't do a person good anymore.

Typing this on my so called smart phone so editing is a joke. Hope it makes sense. I do have to admit I saw a story the other day about a company called Winco which could become a major competitor to Wal Mart. Anything that goes against that behemoth is always good news to me. Otherwise support local businesses as much as possible.

It is a nice rainy cool afternoon here in Dallas, the tourists aren't too happy, but some of us locals are ecstatic.

a couple of late night random thoughts ... and then an addition

Why do we always make things so complicated? Even the simplest things we find a way to make convoluted.

And I am curious as to what the rest of the world thinks of a certain MR Snow den and the accompanying information he has provided.

I posted this earlier this evening and since then, one of my children and I have been down a 60's rock history lesson using Youtube. Scary how much the music of that era still has an influence on young people. We covered a bunch from the fake bands such as the Archies and Partridge family to Crosby Stills Nash and Young, The Who and they even knew about the Doors and Jim Morrison, but just found out that Jim Morrison was the singer for The Doors.

What a long strange trip its been this evening.

Living through the 100 degree heat, have a great day
