That wonderful married life

Back in July I noticed the car sticker was going to expire at the end of August and mentioned it to the better half while we were driving in HER car.

Then we got the reminder letter in the mail and I brought it to her attention.

First week or so of August I reminded her she was going to need the car inspected to get the sticker.

Mid August I suggested she get an oil change when she got the car inspected.

Today, the 31st, I got home from work and was told since I bugged her so much about the sticker I could put it on. “sneak attack”?

And you wonder why there are so many sit coms about married couples. It is a real thing.

Well at least she got the sticker on time.

Cheers

Don’t you like it when you feel vindicated?

Mark Sanford has a new book out and yes I haven’t read it, but from an article about the book he apparently is saying that the Republican Party does not really have a conservative agenda or is no longer conservative. I have been saying that for years.

It is interesting to hear someone who had a long running political career as a Republican say that though.

The article can be found on Business Insider if you are interested. He states he feels the Republican Party has lost its way and some of it is attributable to Trumpism, he admits the Republicans had lost their conservative way long before Trump.

He addresses it a bit different than I have and would, yet for someone to address these issues in a book is pretty significant.

And for those so far down the Trump rabbit hole, they would not realize how little the Republican Party is defined by any true conservative agenda and this is also part of the problem. There is no conservative agenda.

Sure there was cut taxes, but in practice this was for corporations and as I have always said supporting the uber rich to so they can become richer is not really conservatism.

The strong defense policy was not for defense, but more for large corporations to make money off the taxpayers, which they aren’t or at least proportionally.

And appointing conservative judges which Trump did is not beneficial if you do not give them a strong conservative agenda to rule on.

Otherwise you get a bunch of lip service to conservative talking points such as pro-life, but other than cutting federal funding to Planned Parenthood or other places you can get an abortion there is no real policy. There is no pro family policy, no policy to help people that are married, no policy to protect individuals and especially against corporations, just a bunch of talking points.

So when you hear some Democrats call the Republican Party the party of no, it is understandable because the Republicans haven’t come out with real comprehensive actionable public policy on real conservative issues in years. They just get away with going against everything the Democrats propose as a policy, hence the party of no.

And since much of the conservative agenda falls back on moral issues and since they have lost their moral compass they don’t even know how to make conservative policy.

For example, we all know stealing is bad and because of that conservatives use to call themselves the party of law and order under the guise as to protect people from being robbed. Yet to truly understand why stealing is bad you should base your policy on the concept that stealing is an action that shows this person has no respect for you as a person. Once you lose respect for each other then society starts to crumble. And again the key concept is respecting each other, then you understand why stealing is bad and not because there are some laws that say so. Nowadays though people view stealing as bad because you lost a material good and the other person shouldn’t get to have it because it was yours. There is a nuance here I am trying to state that I hope you are picking up on.

It isn’t the immediate action that is what we should be creating policy for as a conservative, but the underlying principles of why we feel that action is wrong or right that should be the basis for conservative public policy. Yet the Republican Party is failing in both regards and has been for quite some time.

I could spell this out in greater detail, but I am writing this while eating breakfast before work so have a great day. Hopefully I will get back to this sometime. I was just glad to see someone who represented the Republican Party for as long as Mr. Sanford did, even though a “fallen’ Republican say that this party does not represent conservatism, even before Trump.

:in the old days” we use to say you shouldn’t eat and run. Well I am eating and writing and running so I am failing at good health and good efforts. sheesh!

You are not sick till the Doctor says you are sick and other assorted matters

Yep, it is that time when you have to make the round of doctors and tests and poking and prodding and other general discomforts and listen to someone say this or that and you have no desire to do any of it. So it goes. And you spend two or three days or so waiting on something called results all the while hoping they don’t find something or worry they missed something and then a week later you go back to your normal day to day worries. So good news is all my results are survivable and just waiting on the better half to finish up her visits and maybe we can not think about anything for a bit.

Being open is a relative term.

You go into the store and the hours say open till 11:00pm, yet there is no one at the counter and you do not hear any noises and it is 9pm. Finally someone comes out wheeling a bunch of empty trays and takes your order. In reality though I understand that restaurant workers have to make certain deadlines in getting the store cleaned up because they are always under pressure from management who are under pressure from corporate to keep labor costs down. And I am sure there is more pressure being exerted from the corporate overlords about labor costs considering all businesses have been through over the last year and a half. Still when you walk in you do want to get your order in so you can begin to eat it before tomorrow’s breakfast. So I don’t blame the worker and I am have tempted to call out the company by name, but who wants to destroy business and put more people out of work, not that anyone is listening anyway.

And going back to good health or at least some facsimile of it, we spent the better part of this past weekend breathing in real air and doing outdoor activities so my muscles actually felt like they moved. And I was a bit surprised my muscles weren’t that sore since we had put in a few hours of actually using them. So feeling good that I could walk away and still walk away upright. It was a bit hot, well very hot with tons of humidity so burnt through a few calories on top of everything.

And then there is looking at pictures. The better half loves to take pictures so she was going through the ones she just took and downloading them to a computer which always leads to looking at older pictures which makes you want to go on vacation all over again; and then again, and then again; and then again. We were looking at Lake Tahoe and that is so hard to believe we were there because it is such a beautiful place and now it seems to be a distant memory. The pictures seem surreal and it becomes harder and harder to visualize exactly what you were doing when you took the pictures. And if she starts pulling up family vacation photos, well there goes the memory banks completely. I can always remember being there and can remember the there, but never what everyone was up to leading to the picture being taken, unless it was taken in a restaurant, well sort of.

Here’s to your vacations: Cheers

It doesn’t take much for a hypocrite to show their true colors, does it Governor Abbott?

Yes the lovely wonderful strong leader that is Governor Abbot will spend tax payer money to ask for mortuary trucks, will spend tax payer money for him to receive Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody treatment even though he is vaccinated and showing no symptoms of Covid-19 and is spending taxpayer money to file lawsuits against local governments and independent school districts who are asking people to put on simple cloth masks to protect each other so people won’t die.

Yes, Governor Abbott it must be nice to deny people their basic right to life while you flaunt your existence and taxpayer benefits for your own life and use taxpayer money to clean up the deaths you are creating by not letting local governments manage the health crisis as they see fit. Yep true blue blood, give me the best and the rest of you can die. And some people think this is conservatism, sorry, it ain’t. It is 100% hypocritical.

Have a nice day Governor!

solving “zero” world problems

yet not solving real world or first through third world problems.

Yes, I saw a commercial for beer for dogs. Who on this planet thinks this is something we need or even want? I understand we live in a commercial society and selling products create jobs and increase the economy. Yet, beer for dogs and not even with alcohol, which is good for the dogs, but completely worthless to anyone even the dogs. Someone went to the trouble to create this just to make money, but at least create or invent something that has some viable purpose. A beer for dogs and with no alcohol is consumerism gone more than bad.

So someone thought they could make money because people think spoiling their dogs is more important than developing better or more efficient ways to feed people, or build better buildings or bridges, or more ecological  friendly desalination plants, or create better healthcare policies, or what the Scottish did with building tidal driven turbines for electricity, or food we can eat with less chemicals or basically finding ways to get fresh food back into cities effectively, or finding ways to help alleviate flooding and moving water to places where it is needed, or any other numerous needs that will better our planet and help people.

And yes I know this is a this is a fighting windmills argument, but some of us need to address better use of consumerism to continue to allow us to have an expanding economy and still do something productive for mankind in general. And the irony is I could probably better use my time than write this fantasy, but what the heck.

Or we can let pet rocks rule our world.

Also prayers and help for the people of Haiti, boy do they need more than we can imagine right now.

labor begets labor

So you did a great job, what is the reward? more labor. Why?

Because we are all a bunch of lets say “lacking intelligence or common sense” because if I say any other word, well, insulting people is not a good color on me.

Everyone has heard the phrase 10% of the people do 90% of the work. Again why? see above

So why is that? It amazes me that we let ourselves fall into these situations where we either are the one person doing everything or come to overly rely on the one person doing everything.

The world would be so much better if we all did a little bit, but you do not care do you? Why? Because you are a heck of a lot smarter than me.

Today the doctor said I cannot drink alcohol till tomorrow. There is a very good reason for that, but it still ruins my Friday. The good news is the doctor said don’t do any work. So I am not.

Cheers

Don’t you hate it when an opinion piece states the obvious, yet

I do not care how bad bacon is for you, it sure smells damn good when cooking.

And what has that got to do with the price of tea in China? A bunch actually.

So we, as people, love shiny things, we cannot get enough of them, but like bacon no matter how good it appears on the surface there are many things once you scratch the surface that will kill you. And as people we tend to jump head on into whatever crap lies beneath the surface and just refuse to see the crap. Once something is shiny in our eyes, well it is shiny down to its rotten core.

And that in the biggest nutshell is why this country is falling apart at the seams. Too many people will not see the truth no matter what.

And this goes if you are Republican, Democrat, left wing, right wing, no wing, middle wing, moderate, cave dweller, or whoever,  a person will refuse to take the step back and realize that turd taste in their mouth is actually a turd.

And yes if you are one of the above you will say everyone but you or like you falls for this, but not you. And you will look at yourself in the mirror and say not me and actually believe yourself. Now this doesn’t apply for everything, many times you do see what is below the surface, it is just when you do accept the shiny surface then that is when you cannot back away enough to realize the trouble you are causing yourself.

And it becomes virtually impossible to walk someone back from a rotten core and the more you have gone public with it the harder it is to walk back.

And this is a trait that we have has humans that goes back throughout the history of humanity. The problem is us Americans have found new ways to take this to new heights.

And what exacerbates this problem is how people take advantage once you go down this rabbit hole until a person has no idea which way is up.

And all this leads us to the obvious problem. Authoritarianism all around the world is growing and even winning because we cannot face the simple truth, we cannot admit to ourselves when we make a mistake. So basically somewhere sometime right before when all the monsters of humanity take over the planet, you will hear the word:

Oops
