What happened in Mississippi represents

Everything that is wrong about the Republican party.

First I want to separate Mr. Mayfield's suicide from my general thoughts. We do need to remember everyone is innocent until proven guilty . We cannot assume his guilt even with his suicide. And with suicide there can be much more than what meets the headlines. I hope the authorities find the truth, but unfortunately it will not undo this growing tragedy.

Second I think it needs to be noted there are some people who truly believe they are members of a grass roots group as tea party members. Which leads to part of the problem of the Republican party. They think they are fighting to retake the Republican party from the establishment part of the party which they now realize has not done anything for them except give lip service to their votes. And their being mislead by the tea party leadership is only going to compound things for them down the road.

So the real start is the establishment part of the party. Cochran's victory is so hollow when you realize he ran on what he has done for Mississippi, but Mississippi has nothing to brag about. They are at the bottom of most socio-economic factors. What has he truly done for his state? Yeah a bit of pork here and there and even some needed post Katrina help, but that was more because the Bush adm had to finally do something because they were looking pretty bad. Cochran as the establishment candidate shows exactly how little the establishment wing of the party cares about the people of this country. A Senator should not be in office for almost forty years, brag about what you do for your state in your re election, and yet your state is in horrid shape. Mississippi is not an outlier it is the wall poster for every misrepresentation of every broken promise the Republican party has made for decades. Senator has no business being re elected along with many other current Republicans who have given lip service to a "conservative" agenda only created to get out votes while these Representatives lived high off the public/lobby trough.

So why isn't the tea party the answer. Technically it should be. Upset Republican faithful demanding the party become responsive to their needs is exactly what the party needs. The reality though of underlying backers trying to shove down our country's throat an agenda that in the long run only benefits them isn't going to help the people who believe they have found an answer. Most people outside the tea party have discerned this fact. The faithful though are caught up in their anger, frustration, lack of education, dreams sold to them since their youth by you guesssed it the establishment Republicans, now have all this corralled by some very serious power brokers lead to a seriously misguided movement being dragged through the mud now by right wing extremists getting more and more support by the original power brokers hoping to get enough sheep in office to end run the establishment for their own ends.

We now have rich (extreme) vs. rich (sitting too pretty) fighting for the same votes, both hoping to manipulate these voters to hold onto their greed and status at the expense of the rest of us. And I know this isn't earth shattering news, but it nevers hurts to sit back and use an opportunity to identify a problem so hopefully you can find a solution.

One of these days I hope a true independent conservative movement can take shape to help us through our current economic and government budget malaise. We cannot continue to expect the Federal government can solve all our problems. There is much work to be done, but with both groups of the Republican party touting to be the voice of conservatives and where neither side gives a rat's ass about the people of this country they are handing over power to the very people they say is hurting our economy and country. And this just perpetuates the financial time bomb we are handing the next generation.

Time to find a way to create a real voice for the middle class that understands how important it is to get our fiscal house in order, improve education (not teach rote memorization), rebuild real capitalism (not the bank and rich crony capitalism) to help with broad based wealth building (which creates opportunity for all even the current welfare state), and rebuilds what our constitution and bill of rights gives us. A true conservative knows these are our values and our country, not lip service to the false dream that is destroying us.
