Embarrassed yet?

That was seriously _____________, fill in the blank because it was whatever that was. Probably most people have filled in that blank already though. Twitter seemed to have enough comments last night. And I even over did it by a few.

As a citizen of the United States I am embarrassed at that debate. And yes, here it comes....

 “we need new parties”.

Almost 200 years of a two party system of Democrat versus Republican and this is what we have to offer ourselves or for the world to watch. You have to be kidding me. It is way past time for the duopoly to end. And if you want to disagree with me, please go back and watch that again. I had to record it because we were busy so we watched it late, but if you missed it I will be glad to show it to you. Because this is a train wreck you need to see if you do not think we need change.

Just over one month to the election and Thelma and Louise look good or are we in that last scene where we have already driven over the cliff.

And that post the other night with the alternatives may not be looking so bad right now and none of those candidates is truly ready to be President, but hey, look at what they are up against.

Anyway more to come...ugh!

And Lakers versus Heat is probably the one NBA series Final I didn’t want to happen. So I just watched the Stars get beat so already not in a good mood. Yet, they got beat quite frankly by a better team or at least they definitely played much better, but hey it was a Finals series and we got to route for the home team. The NBA series has no attraction for me. I will probably watch some since I like basketball, but very little. I am so hissed off at the world I am not fixing this paragraph.

And speaking of disasters, anyone watching the Cowboys? sheesh they dig holes bigger than the craters on the moon. Thank goodness they are in the east and are in second place by half a game. They can still actually salvage the season if they get their act together.

No Cheers tonight, the tequila is for medicinal purposes only right now.

So the debate is Tuesday and you are....

Well if you are curious, here are some third party and independent candidates you can check out and I included a link to their websites for more of their information.

I am copying and pasting links so if they do not work it is easy to do internet searches on any of these candidates. Some of these sites are better than others. I included some some thoughts at the end of the list.

The Alliance Party candidate is Roque “Rocky” De la Fuente and the website is:

https://rocky101.com/en_us/eng/

The American Solidarity candidate is Brian Carroll and the website is:

http://briancarroll.life/

The Birthday Party candidate is Kanye West and the website is:

https://kanye2020.country/

The Constitution Party candidate is Don Blankenship and the website is:

https://www.donblankenship.com/

The Green Party candidate is Howie Hawkins and the website is:

https://howiehawkins.us/

The Libertarian Party candidate is Jo Jorgensen and the website is:

https://jo20.com

Some independents are:

Alyson Kennedy who is a Socialists Workers Party candidate and in my quick research I did not find a website, however an internet search does produce articles about her and her efforts.

Gloria la Riva is identified as a socialism and liberation candidate (I do not know if that is a party though) and her website is:

https://www.lariva2020.org/

John Richard “JR” Myers seems to be identified with the Life and Liberty Party and his website is:

https://johnrichardmyers.com/

Brock Pierce is an independent candidate and his website is:

https://www.brock.vote/

These are some of the candidates you can find running for President. There may be other candidates and if you know of an actual declared candidate you can add their info to the comment section or send me an email. I am in no way shape or form endorsing any of these candidates, nor do I state that all to any of them is actually ready to be President.

I always say we need new parties so I thought I would put a little bit of time in to let you know there are options. Some might have agendas and ideas that intrigue you. In fact quite of few of them do have quite an extensive website and you might find someone more to your liking than the two major party candidates. It is all up to you.

I still believe we need new parties even with this list. And I have extensive posts on my ideas on public policy so here is a quick hit on those ideas.

I am for rebuilding our infrastructure. -Trump may address this topic if it is part of the questions.

In rebuilding our infrastructure I believe in building out more for green energy and I also believe in green energy being part of economic development plans to help our economy and jobs.

Another economic development idea is for large scale desalinization projects for clean water and to help with agriculture. I also have gone down a rabbit hole talking about building a national canal system to help out. That was also a very involved post, but I stand by my thoughts.

I also believe we need an economic and tax plan that supports shrinking the wealth gap, helping the middle class and reducing the deficit and debt. This involves breaks for companies that expand and pay people and high tax rates for some of wall street’s activities such as short term algorithm trading for example.

I have an extensive idea for shoring up social security and medicare. I have posted on this before and it is one of my involved posts. If the topic comes up tomorrow, my counter would be we need new ideas and reference the details, current ideas by Trump and Biden are too weak. Again I stand by my ideas.

I would be very moderate when it comes to foreign policy and would sound very similar to what I think Biden will say which is the need to rebuild relationships and trust with our allies. I think right now that has to be a priority.

We need stronger education.

There is more, but for right now I do not know what the topics are going to be so just leaving at this for now. Once I get an idea of each debate’s topics I may come back and address.

I am a very conservative person especially socially and family, but have always believed a moderately conservative platform is the better way to go when it comes to public policy that allows for accepting new ideas to address problems when needed.

Once clueless, always clueless

Okay a bit harsh, but seriously, why does Pelosi think she can impeach Trump again. Or better yet, why bother?

Honestly I am not sure if I know the reason, just saw a headline and it was enough to turn me off and as you know I am not President Trump’s biggest fan.

Amazes me this is a consideration.

The reality is the Democrats need to find a way to suck it up, make in person voting as safe as possible and get everyone down to the polls if they want to win. Otherwise all hades is going to break loose and that I am not looking forward to happening.

And I was excited the other day. I saw an article about how voting for Democrats and Republicans is a waste of your vote. I thought all right someone who understands, unfortunately it was tempered a bit when I realized the author of the piece is an active member of the Libertarian Party. Now this is okay, but it would have been nice if this person was a true independent. This was an opinion piece in a Florida newspaper, not a blog so it had some respectability, alas though a partisan piece. Again okay, but it took the wind out of my cheerful sail that day. A high, an oh well.

Now I remember why Pelosi was talking impeachment, it had something to do with Trump nominating someone for the Supreme Court. It must suck to be Justice Ginsburg’s family, all this hoopla about her, but only for her seat, not as much for her.

Have a better evening

And to follow up to my last post

 Look for this article:

'Intergenerational conflict' is getting worse, Deutsche Bank analysts warn’ by Ethan Wolf-Mann.

This talks about something my crazy ideas have been trying to address for years.

A) We need to build green energy with a vengeance

B) Desalination to increase potable water is a real need

C) The Wealth gap needs to be addressed

D) Wages need to come up with jobs that offer better growth opportunity (also see “A”)

E) Better affordable education

F) Better healthcare system and better planning for elder care for families

G) We need to fix Social Security

H) Better policies that support families with children

And the list could go on, but I have been singing this tune for decades and have put them in writing over the last decade. And by the way, I am a boomer.

And currently we do need some infrastructure projects for two reasons, one we need them and two great way to add jobs for the time being till we get out of Covid 19.

And you wonder why I say we need new parties.

What?!?!?! did someone prove my craziness might be right

Apparently there is a Tufts University study that says well over 300 US cities could grow their own food. Sorry I saw this yesterday and do not have many details. It does on the surface support my ideas that we should support a more local economy.

You cannot say “spread the wealth” or “share the wealth” because the one percenters and their lackeys will say you are a socialist, which isn’t necessarily true. I believe you need to create more capitalists to create more wealth which helps shrink the wealth gap and grow the economy more. If people are able to grow and distribute food locally then more people are participating in the economy in a beneficial way. And hence you are sharing the wealth.

So farmers benefit, local distributors benefit, it is a wash for chain grocery stores because they have to get produce from somewhere or maybe more local stores are created, and potentially more jobs are created.

And another benefit is, if we are eating fresh food we are eating healthier.

And I believe you could do this for many industries. I recently posted on this very same topic.

This is for well over 300 cities. This is a very large portion of the population of the United States. Just think, better economy, better health and “capitalism” thrives. Wall Street doesn’t want to hear this information. The rest of us should.

Discipline is a four letter word

Yes, all normal human beings understand.

So much going on and no desire to say anything, yet I found something positive so will comment on that.

Apparently quite a handful of Representatives decided it was time to do something and have come up with their own compromise on a stimulus package. I read it included an equal amount of Democrats and Republicans. I have not confirmed that information, but it sure sounds good. As you know I am not a fan of either party, but I am taking this as proof solid that people are ready for new leadership which to me also means new parties.

The national leadership of both parties are failing us so it is good to see others step up.

Remember the cartoon “Pinky and the Brain”

Remember how the Brain had a singular desire to rule the world, never really said exactly what he would do if he did rule the world, yet he did have that singular passionate all encompassing desire to rule the world.

Have you noticed our current President seems to have no encompassing desire to be President? The closest it comes might be he is using the Presidency to make money, but quite frankly I cannot see that 100%. He isn’t exploiting the office to make billions like his pal Vlad the glad, maybe tens of millions at best. It seems to be more of a side gig for him. He just doesn’t seem to have a driving desire that is all encompassing as President or to be President. I cannot determine if I feel maddened by this or just disappointed. Life is so much better when you know the plan. Or at least you can make a plan to counter.

And the alt right is acting like the pretentious left this past week. This controversy of Ms. Pelosi and the lack of face mask while getting her hair done is pretty funny. Here we have a big brouhaha coming from people who do not wear masks anyway. It is like they are calling her a hypocrite, yet calling a politician a hypocrite is like saying the sky is blue. The real issue is what shade of blue or how deep of a blue is it. It isn’t a question of if the sky is blue.

And brings us to the current point that modern American politics is just one extreme indictment of American public education for the last two or three generations. And after 50 years of greed and pretentiousness ruling the roost, don’t you think it is time for a change?

Trump’s feedback loop

First of all I hope you are enjoying your Labor Day. Unfortunately way too many people still have to work. As always something is wrong with that picture.

Trump constantly does something to inflame tensions and passions, then says all these people are law breakers when they go out and protest what his words represent. Now unfortunately there are a few outliers who do riot and loot, but they are not the protesters. Trump though gets to use the outliers to push his law and order campaign (which for him is one big misnomer since he is breaking more laws daily than any other President in history).

He screams about how bad the protesters are to inflame his people and hopefully scare enough people in believing he needs to stay President to prevent these people from destroying their towns.

Then more people protest what he does, more stuff happens and he goes right back to we need to protect the cities from all this unlawfulness. He inflames racial tensions, adds to the feedback loop and it keeps growing.

Then many of us watch all this madness with disbelief.  People are caught watching and not responding. And for people in general, many want someone to blame and Trump is great at pointing fingers to control the narrative. Why for so long he has gotten away with this, is one giant study in psychology somewhere down the line.

Still it leaves us with this growing ugly feedback loop that no one, not even Trump will soon be able to control. And right now there are no immediate solutions, so lets look at possible root causes to hopefully start redirecting our actions.

So is the root cause:

a) he knows if he leaves office he is going to jail and is desperately trying to find a way to stay in office

b) he really is a monstrous racist and can barely hide it anymore

c) Putin has him lock stock and barrel and is convincing Trump to turn this country upside down so Putin can say Western Democracy doesn’t work and destroy us completely.

d) Trump is his own dictator and thinks turning 1/3 of the country against the rest of it is his only way to achieve this goal

e) Trump really doesn’t know what he is doing

f) some combination of the above

g) he honestly believes that he is doing the right thing (it is that damn perspective thing)

And I just posted all this knowing that we should not belittle or denigrate others, so oops, but at times you have to address the issue as best you can. And I struggle because I do not think I am belittling him as a person, but what he is doing, but are they equal? Or is it hand in hand?

Now for the second half of this situation. I do not know any specific answers except a general one. And I was hinted at it this morning. I went to the grocery store this morning and as I was walking around I heard over the intercom from one of those automated pages: Matthew 12 13  Matthew 12 13 and I joked to myself that sounds like a Bible verse. I looked it up.

From the New American Bible “Then he said to the man,”stretch out your hand”. He stretched it out, and it was restored as sound as the other.”

So obviously this comes from a story of healing. Now it is the story of one man being healed, however it seems to me you can apply it to our country. We need to stretch out our hands and restore both hands or the whole of the country. Is this a direct application of this story from the Bible? Nope. It does say something to us though. How do we stretch out our hands to those who are falling for Trump’s words of hate? I do not know, but finding that can be a beginning to start the healing.

Stay safe today

a better economy

I have touted this before, yet as I think about it I do not tout it enough.

First though a comment to the pretentious left. Yes, we know Trump is not the most admirable person on planet earth and yes Putin is probably trying to destroy our country using him to divide us. Stop the madness though. You cannot go all in on every twitter comment or every comment in general that tells us Trump is being a bad boy or saying something crazy. You need to concentrate on making sure you talk about what you can do if Biden becomes President. You aren’t changing Trump supporter’s minds, but you have to convince the undecided that you have better ideas. Right now all this slapping each other on the back every time you tweet something snarky is not going to win the Democrats any elections. On to better things.

And back to the economy. If you really want to improve the wealth gap, the wage gap, the disproportionate allocation of resources, just things in general you need to reverse years of the one percent consolidating their wealth.

In general our economy is more than the stock market, but somehow Fox News, the brokerage houses, and now the big banks convinced millions of Americans that it is the economy and that everyone needs to be all in on buying stocks or you are not successful. Everything about money or wealth is tied to the market and in some respects it is a lagging economic indicator that reflects what people thought was going to happen. The banks want you to think it is a leading economic indicator so you may get confused. They want you to believe if the market is going up the economy is doing well and will continue to do well. That is their sell. There is much more to this discussion because in general I have to prove some of my points in this paragraph for you to understand why I eschew a bit of a contrarian view point on the market.

Today though isn’t about the market, it is about something more important.

Today is about undoing the consolidation of wealth that has been going on for decades. And that is finding ways to encourage the break up of large companies which may not be that fruitful. Or better yet the development of regional economies that create new industries, new business and new companies in existing industries.

Lets break this down using some simple examples. Right now big oil makes a fortune developing plastic products. And they have done a fine job creating all sorts of plastic products from bottles to clothes to so much more. This creates a two fold problem, it destroyed older more established products and companies and second plastic just isn’t good for the environment so an excessive amount of energy and resources are used combating the drag on our lives with all this plastic.

For some reason recycling is a negative word to too many people, yet overall there is so much benefit, but to change minds we need to change the approach. Some of you may remember buying soft drinks in glass bottles. First remember how good they tasted coming from glass bottles. I feel with 100% certainty that if you could drink from a glass bottle you would appreciate the difference. Think about this, beer is sold in glass bottles. Why not every marketed drink? Now some of you may also remember for the soft drinks you had to pay an extra 5 cents and then when you returned it you got your 5 cents back. Seemed a bit of a hassle. So you have two choices, you could just pay extra for the product or pay the deposit. Either way you have a better product. And glass is something that could be produced in regional plants creating two businesses. One glass manufacturing and two potential recycling of the glass since it can be recycled. You introduce the deposit again. People will balk at first but over time they adapt. They always do. Some will fight for the convenience, but you have to stick with it. And nowadays with debit cards and customer loyalty cards the exchange of the deposit could be seamless.

It seems trivializing, but start applying it to other businesses. What clothes are the most comfortable? Clothes made from cotton and wool. Yes a very light weight wool fabric is still comfortable in the summer. So you bring back clothing manufacturers and work with local agriculture to develop cotton and wool suppliers. And yes cotton is best grown only in some regions, but at least the farmers can sell to a much larger customer base if more people made clothes. And sheep thrive better in certain climates, but either way you work to spread out the growth of the entire business chain.

Some people will still want the cheap plastic clothes so I know you cannot get rid of this product completely, but if you create very strong public policy that encourages the change and discourages the products that aren’t beneficial then the change can happen.

What people have forgotten with all the consolidation is quality. Glass, wool, cotton create a better product. And it is worth it to pay a bit more because they last longer and once you have finished your soda or the clothes have worn out, you can recycle which helps to keep supply costs down, hence retail costs down. And people have forgotten that cotton and wool clothes last longer, look better, and feel better.

The idea is to bring back products where quality is important. Why, because to produce quality products you need to put more work into it, which means more jobs and better paying jobs because you have to pay for better work. The end retail costs may be a bit higher, but the products are better and last longer.

The corporations wanted us to believe convenience was more important to us. They created behaviors that benefit them, not the consumer. Convenience and marketing ruled our day. We lost touch with being consumers and customers. The Democrats created bureaucracy to protect us from our own misguided consumer principles and now we have no idea on how to shop well. Too much government, not enough common sense.

And I always struggle trying to create a succinct message on this change. I know too many people that will shoot down the idea because they are programmed to believe large corporations are shining examples of capitalism when in reality they are anti capitalists. It benefits them to reduce competition, to dictate what we know and how we act. Their lives are easier when they create an illusion our lives easier, but we do not benefit in the long run from these conveniences.

We are subject to their whims, when they make a mistake there is no competition to turn to and show them they need to do better because we can go elsewhere or have more choices. Some will argue too many choices are counter productive and I agree there is a saturation point, but we are far from that right now. We may see a hundred different shirts or blouses in a store, but the real choices are few and far between. We need to bring many industries back home. This may sound a bit Trumpish, but that is one of his selling points. We do need more industries and better jobs here. He knows the message, but has no desire to actually implement the change. And he gets away with it because we are programmed to accept certain words and messages without digging into the reality. He sold a bill of words in 2016 that so many people wanted to hear, but that is all he did was sell words. We need real bill of goods.

Again I struggle with communicating my ideas to redistribute the wealth. We do not need socialism we need true capitalism. So public and tax policy that brings back industries throughout the country is a goal we should strive to achieve. This will not be easy because doing what is right never is easy it seems. Hammer me on the particulars because I get bogged down here something fierce. Make me flesh it out. I feel very strongly that for our country to actually thrive again, we need to open up the country and have people start new businesses that build quality products using natural resources not plastic and convenience. It may seem odd sounding that I am encouraging going backwards in some ways, but technology will still be used it is just reconfiguring where productivity and resources are applied.

Okay enough for the evening. It is September the weather will be changing soon, hopefully we can change too.

Cheers
