Should I be empathetic for the British people since PM Johnson is in ICU?
Or more importantly sympathetic for his family during this stressful time?
How about concerned about the vast amount of unknown we are still facing?
How about patriotic so that all the old people die so young people can be abused by the one-percenters instead and the economy can open? Oops, a bit of extreme sarcasm there.
How about patriotic and support all the doctors, nurses, first responders, etc. who have given up their lives in more ways than one to get us through this catastrophe? yes, better
How about conspiratorial and go with all the people saying Bill Gates wants to control the world with the new vaccine he is contributing to produce?
How about frustrated since testing still isn’t being done comprehensively if barely at all, or the manufacturing never materialized in time so that the doctors, nurses, first responders, etc would have the equipment they desperately need to help us?
How about confused because our President keeps saying he wants to open the country back up so the economy can grow, yet he does nothing to get us there sooner. He didn’t shut the country down, he doesn’t test, he hems and haws blaming everyone yet will not be the great leader he tells us he is and go in front of the cameras and say:
“I want to save this country, therefore starting today at midnight I am ordering a nationwide shutdown and only essential businesses across the country will remain open. I am going to catch up and gear up the defense production act to its full capabilities for the next month so we do not fall further behind. I am going to test and test and test. We are going to find out who has survived and who is sick. We are going to ask people who have survived to donate plasma to help others where appropriate. This country can not wait any longer. We must take action now so we can reopen this country with confidence that we are ahead of the virus and will be able to address any secondary flare-ups immediately. I will work with local authorities to help them so you will be able to take care of your deceased loved ones and give them the respect they deserve when we can open back up. I will continue to support the people who are losing their jobs until we get back on our feet. I will support the training of people so they can get temporary employment in the healthcare field or working in the grocery stores or working in the supply chain so we can hold our unemployment numbers as low as possible. Some people will not like hearing this including people who support me. I have to put the whole of the country first so all of us can benefit. This is not a time to whine, this is a time to act. You must follow the guidelines for this essential shut down. There is no choice because America will survive this crisis, but we must put our best foot forward now so when we have survived all Americans will know this is a great country and we will continue to be great because all Americans will be able to prosper once we get past this time. Thank you and God bless”
Or something like that
Nothing fancy, just straight talk to the American people so we can rally around the President even if we previously we have not thought highly of him. The President can turn around everything including his image. What he cannot do is wait another day because every day he waits means weeks to months more on the back end which doesn’t do us or him a damn bit of good.
